How To Use Voice Typing in Word and Google Docs
Voice typing is a convenient feature that allows you to transcribe your speech into text in Word and Google Docs. Here's how to use it in both applications:
In Microsoft Word:
1.Open Microsoft Word:
• Launch Microsoft Word on your computer.
2.Create a New Document or Open an Existing One:
• You can start a new document or open an existing one where you want to add text using voice typing.
3.Enable Dictation:
• Click the location in your document where you want to begin voice typing.
4.Activate Dictation:
• On Windows: Press "Windows key + H" on your keyboard to activate the dictation feature. You might need to configure this feature in your Windows settings if it's not working.
• On Mac: Click "Edit" in the top menu, then select "Start Dictation."
5.Start Speaking:
• Once dictation is active, speak clearly into your computer's microphone. Your speech will be transcribed into text in your Word document.
6.Finish and Edit:
• When you're done, you can deactivate dictation by clicking the microphone icon or using the keyboard shortcut (Windows: "Windows key + H" or Mac: "Fn" key twice).
7.Edit and Format:
• Review and edit the transcribed text as needed. You can also format it using Word's formatting tools.
In Google Docs:
1.Open Google Docs:
• Access Google Docs through your web browser.
2.Create a New Document or Open an Existing One:
• Start a new document or open an existing one where you want to use voice typing.
3.Enable Voice Typing:
• Click "Tools" in the top menu, then select "Voice typing." A microphone icon will appear on the left side of your document.
4.Start Speaking:
• Click the microphone icon to start voice typing. As you speak, Google Docs will transcribe your speech into text in real-time.
5.Finish and Edit:
• Click the microphone icon again to stop voice typing. You can also use the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl + Shift + S" (Windows) or "Cmd + Shift + S" (Mac).
6.Edit and Format:
• Review and edit the transcribed text as needed. You can format it using Google Docs' formatting options.
Remember that for voice typing to work effectively, you need a microphone and a good internet connection, especially in the case of Google Docs, as it uses online speech recognition. Both Word and Google Docs support multiple languages for voice typing, so you can choose your preferred language for transcription.
